A 27-year-old man was arrested following an incident involving a weapon that resulted in police deploying a conducted energy weapon (CEW).
At approximately 12:00 a.m. on September 14, 2022, police responded to the 200 block of Grant Street for a report of a man armed with a knife. Investigation found that the man had gained access to a residence before fleeing the area prior to police arrival; a search of the area was inconclusive in locating the man. No physical injuries were reported at the time.
Again, at approximately 2:00 a.m. the same morning, police received another call to the same residence reporting the man to have returned. Upon police arrival, a man matching the description of the suspect was located outside of the residence armed with a knife and threatening self-harm. The man refused to comply with police commands resulting in the successful deployment of a CEW. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to SPS Detention where he was medically assessed and cleared by on-duty paramedics.
The 27-year-old Saskatoon man is facing charges relating to break and enter, carrying a weapon dangerous to public peace, and unauthorized carry of a concealed weapon. He was also found to be unlawfully at large; failing to comply with court-imposed conditions.
The deployment of the CEW will be reviewed in accordance with policy.
