One man was arrested this morning following an unsuccessful attempt to outrun the Air Support Unit in a stolen vehicle.
On March 9, 2023 at around 1:00 a.m., police received a report of a stolen vehicle in progress in the 700 block of Childers Crescent. Responding officers soon spotted the vehicle travelling in the area of Fairlight Drive and Confederation Drive. Upon attempt of a traffic stop, the vehicle fled dangerously at a high rate of speed. Officers on the ground disengaged from the evade police incident while those in the air took over monitoring the suspect vehicle’s movements; it was followed from the air to the intersection of Spadina Crescent East and Duke Street where the suspect abandoned it and fled on foot. Members of the Air Support Unit were successful in guiding officers on the ground to the 1100 block of King Street where the suspect was found hiding in a nearby backyard; he was taken into custody without further incident.
As a result, a 27-year-old Saskatoon man is facing several charges, including; break and enter, possession of break and enter tools, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property under $5000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, operating a motor vehicle being pursued by police, and failing to comply with court-imposed conditions. He also faces two charges relating to identity documents belonging to another person that were found to be in his possession upon arrest.
