A 32-year-old man was taken into custody this morning, following an incident that resulted in police deploying a conducted energy weapon (CEW), and less lethal options.
On March 13, 2023, at approximately 3:15 a.m., police were called to a domestic dispute in the 1600 block of Avenue C North. The report suggested a man at the residence was armed with a knife. Upon arrival, officers found a 32-year-old man acting in an erratic manner, and threatening self harm. It was confirmed by officers that he was in possession of a knife. Attempts at de-escalation were unsuccessful, which led to an officer deploying a CEW. When the CEW was unsuccessful, and the man continued to disobey officer commands,the deployment of less lethal options were utilized to take him safely into custody.
The 32-year-old man was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was then transported to hospital for further assessment.
This incident will be reviewed in accordance with SPS policy.
