The Saskatoon Police Service responded to two incidents today where Conducted Energy Weapons (CEW) were deployed.
On March 24, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., police received the call of a break in enter in progress at a residence, near the intersection of Carrothers Court and Junor Avenue. It was reported that the suspect had entered a residence armed with a wrench, confronted and threatened a woman inside, before fleeing in an unknown direction. Upon arrival, officers began to search the area and located a 43-year-old man, matching the suspect description, walking nearby. The suspect failed to comply with police instruction and then charged at one of the officers, at which point a CEW was deployed. He continued to resist arrest but was soon brought safely into custody. Further investigation found the wrench had been stolen from a nearby residence.
During the altercation, one of the officers involved received a minor injury.
The 43-year-old man is charged with Break and Enter, Theft, Uttering Threats, and Assaulting a Police Officer.

Then on March 24, 2023, at around 2:30 p.m., police were called to the 3800 block of Fairlight Drive for the report of a man with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers located a 40-year-old man threatening self-harm with a knife. Police attempted to de-escalate the situation but a CEW was eventually deployed in order to safely take him into custody. He was then transported to hospital for further assessment.
