A man was arrested yesterday after reportedly stealing a knife from a store and refusing to stop for Police.
At approximately 3:10 p.m., March 26, 2023, Patrol officers responded to a store in the 400 block of Confederation Drive. It was reported to Police that a male suspect was being aggressive with staff and took a knife from the store before leaving. He was located standing outside of a different store in the 300 block of Confederation Drive. When Police attempted to speak to the suspect, he immediately began walking away, refusing to remove his hands from his pockets. After failing to comply with numerous Police commands, and considering the high volume of pedestrian traffic in the area, officers deployed a conducted energy weapon. The suspect was arrested without further incident and assessed by paramedics on scene, prior to being transported to Detention. Officers seized a large kitchen knife from his possession, along with additional stolen property.
A 37-year-old man is charged with Carry a Weapon Dangerous to the Public, Carry a Concealed Weapon and Theft Under $5000.
This incident will be reviewed in accordance with SPS policy.
