Police have made arrests for arson following two weekend structure fires.
On April 2, 2023 at around 8:40 a.m., police responded to the 1600 block of 1st Avenue North for a report of a multi-unit residential structure fire. Upon arrival, all occupants of the structure were reported to have self-evacuated. The fire was suppressed by members of the Saskatoon Fire Department. Continued investigation resulted in police locating and arresting one of the structure’s occupants; the 31-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with arson with disregard for human life.

Again, on April 2, 2023 at around 8:15 p.m., police responded to the 300 block of Witney Avenue South for a report of a structure fire. The fire was suppressed by members of the Saskatoon Fire Department. Attending officers obtained video of a suspect from the home owner and determined the fire had been set intentionally. Later, on April 3, 2023 at approximately 6:00 a.m., police attended to the 500 block of Avenue T North for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, the same suspect from the video of the intentionally set fire was located and arrested; the 24-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with break and enter to commit arson and recklessly causing damage by fire to property.
