The Saskatoon Police Service has arrested a man after a robbery and several attempted robberies on Thursday evening.
On April 6, 2023, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers responded to a robbery in progress in the 100 block of 110th Street West. A male victim reported that a man, armed with a knife, had stolen his vehicle and fled. As officers were in route to the call, several reports were received regarding erratic driving in the 1600 block of College Drive. Further reports indicated a vehicle, matching the description of the stolen vehicle, had collided with multiple parked cars near the intersection of 20th Street East and 2nd Avenue South. The suspect had reportedly fled from the vehicle after this collision.
At around 4:15 p.m. the suspect entered a parking lot in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South where he attempted to rob a female victim of her vehicle, and was unsuccessful. He then entered a parking lot in the 300 block of Idywyld Drive South and once again tried to rob a female victim of her vehicle. This attempt was also unsuccessful. After threatening a male victim in the area, the suspect began to flee once again, and was reported to have discarded a large knife into a storm drain, near the intersection of 20th Street and Idylwyld Drive South. Shortly after, the 34-year-old man was arrested by police, without further incident. The knife was also recovered by police. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
The 34-year-old man now faces charges of Robbery, Attempted Robbery (x2), Assault with a Weapon (Threatening to Use Weapon), Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Dangerous Driving, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), and Failure to Stop After an Accident.
