Two people were arrested Friday night after a gun was pointed at an SPS officer.
On April 14, 2023, at 8:35 p.m., an off-duty officer was driving in the area of Melrose Avenue and Taylor Street East. An unknown vehicle pulled up beside the officer and the driver pointed a handgun out the window at them, before fleeing. A Traffic member observed the suspect vehicle, a 2018 black Dodge Charger, speeding and was subsequently pulled over at Ruth Street West and Herman Avenue. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted and the male driver and female passenger were taken into custody without further incident. A six-year-old boy was located in the back seat of the vehicle unharmed and was taken into care of family. A pellet gun was located and seized from inside the vehicle.
A 33-year-old man is facing four firearms-related charges and was found to be breaching a number of firearms prohibition orders from various jurisdictions in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
A 36-year-old woman is facing three firearms-related charges. She was later released on an undertaking.
