One man was arrested early Monday morning after fleeing from Police.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., May 1, 2023, Patrol officers observed a suspicious, blue SUV parked in the 300 block of Confederation Drive. The licence plate did not match the vehicle. When officers began speaking with the three individuals inside, two of them cooperated with officers and exited the back seat. The driver refused to exit the vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed.
Police received a report of an unknown vehicle colliding with a tree in a field near Range Road 3073 and Christiansen Road. Members of the SPS Air Support Unit (ASU) observed the vehicle from the sky and located the suspect fleeing on foot to a nearby farmyard. The suspect entered a camper briefly before attempting to access parked vehicles. The suspect then attempted to hide by lying flat on the ground. With the assistance of Patrol and ASU, the Canine Unit located and apprehended the suspect with the use of the Police Service Dog (PSD). He was transported to hospital for treatment of his minor injury due to canine contact.
A 34-year-old man is charged with Evade Police, Dangerous Driving and Break and Enter.
