A conducted energy weapon (CEW) was deployed against a man using a blunt weapon to damage property on the weekend.

On May 20, 2023 at approximately 9:30 a.m., police attended to the area of 23rd Street West and Avenue Y North for a report of a man using a blunt weapon to damage vehicles. Upon arrival, the man did not comply with police commands and continued to act erratically while holding the weapon in a threatening manner. A CEW was successfully deployed and the man was arrested without further incident.

As a result, the 33-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with threatening to use a weapon to commit an assault, carrying a weapon dangerous to public peace, mischief under $5000 (x2), and failing to comply with court-imposed conditions.

The deployment of the CEW will be reviewed in accordance with policy.
