Six people were taken into custody after police received an anonymous call reporting a person armed with a gun in a vehicle.
At around 6:40 a.m. on July 19, 2023, police received an anonymous call reporting a person to have gotten into a vehicle armed with a gun. Patrol officers quickly located the vehicle of interest in the 800 block of 22nd Street West where a high-risk vehicle stop was conducted; six occupants were ordered out and taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a .22 calibre sawed-off rifle and ammunition.
Members of the Guns and Gangs Unit are continuing to investigate; however, it is understood that one occupant may have been abducted at gunpoint and unlawfully confined in the vehicle with the intent to cause harm prior to police locating it. The victim, a 27-year-old man, was not injured.
As a result, three females from Saskatoon, age 32, 23, and 17, have been charged with several firearms-related offences, including use of a firearm to commit an abduction and use of a firearm to unlawfully confine; the 23-year-old was also found to be in breach of court-imposed conditions. A 28-year-old Saskatoon man is also facing charges relating to possession of a firearm while prohibited. A 51-year-old woman was released without charges.
The suspects and victim are believed to be known to one another.
