Two people are facing a number of charges after refusing to stop for Police Sunday morning.
At approximately 7:30 a.m., August 27, 2023, officers were dispatched to a possible impaired driver located in a restaurant drive-thru in the 3500 block of 8th Street East. A traffic stop was attempted on McKercher Drive but the driver refused to stop for Police and attempted to flee at a high-rate of speed. The suspect vehicle, a stolen Ford F-150, was located abandoned in an alley in the 400 block of Rutherford Crescent. The suspected driver and passenger were located walking nearby and were taken into custody without further incident.
The male suspect driver was believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant. A knife was located and seized from the female passenger. Officers discovered various illicit drugs in the pair’s possession including prepackaged methamphetamine and fentanyl. A number of baggies, cell phones and a scale were also located inside of a backpack. Various sets of keys, garage door openers, identification documents and bank cards, not belonging to the suspects, were also discovered by Police.
A 34-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman are both charged with Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking. The female suspect is also charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon.
The male suspect is facing seven additional offences including dangerous and impaired driving-related charges, Evade Police, Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 and Possession of Identity Documents Relating to Another Person.
