Three youth are facing charges after a Saskatoon Police Service officer was assaulted with a weapon over the weekend.
The officer was off-duty at approximately 4:00 a.m., September 17, 2023, when he witnessed a male involved in what appeared to be a verbal confrontation with five or six youth at the intersection of 25th Street East and 3rd Avenue North. When the officer began ordering the teenagers to back away, he was assaulted by a female youth with a metal rod. As he attempted to take the female into custody he was further assaulted by two male youth, who began punching him. On-duty officers nearby were able to take the three into custody. Subsequent investigation found the group was involved in a theft from a nearby convenience store and were pursued out of the store by an employee.
Neither the off-duty member or the employee suffered injuries as a result of the incident.
A 15 year old female is now facing charges of; Assaulting a Peace Officer With a Weapon, Breach of Undertaking (x2), Theft Under $5000. Court information # 991244186.
A 13 year old male is facing charges of Assaulting a Peace Officer and Theft Under $5000.
A 16 year old male is facing a charge of Assaulting a Peace Officer.
Both males were released on undertakings to appear in court in October.
