Two men have been arrested after evading police early this morning.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. on September 21, 2023, officers observed a suspicious vehicle with two occupants driving erratically in the area of 21st Street West and Avenue Y South. A traffic stop was attempted; however, the vehicle evaded police at a high rate of speed for a short distance before colliding with city infrastructure in a nearby park. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was soon apprehended by a police service dog in the 200 block of Avenue Y South; he sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of canine contact. The passenger remained with the vehicle and was arrested without further incident. Both were believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant at the time of their arrests and were transported to hospital for further evaluation.
As a result, the 32-year-old male driver has been charged with evading police and dangerous driving. The 31-year-old male passenger has been charged with breaching court-imposed conditions. Further charges may be laid as the investigation continues.
The Saskatoon Police Service has requested that the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances of this incident.
