A teen is facing a number of weapons-related offences following an assault at a shopping centre, yesterday evening.
At approximately 7:10 p.m., December 19, 2023, Patrol officers responded to a shopping centre in the 200 block of First Avenue South for a reported assault. Upon arrival, Police located the victim, a loss prevention officer (LPO), suffering from minor injuries caused by a knife. Officers learned that a group of people entered a store and the LPO recognized one of them who had been banned from the centre. Upon escorting them out of the vicinity, a brief altercation occurred before the victim was assaulted with a pocket knife. The suspect then fled on foot but was quickly located in the centre by security guards who apprehended him. SPS members arrested the suspect and transported him to Detention.
A 15-year-old is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, breach of an undertaking and breach of probation. He was also found to have two outstanding warrants for his arrest.
