Three people were arrested last night after a stolen vehicle attempted to evade police.
At approximately 10:00 p.m. on December 20, 2023, police observed a suspicious vehicle speeding in the area of 20th Street West and Avenue S South; upon initiating a traffic stop, the vehicle fled in a dangerous manner. Officers disengaged from the evade police incident while others positioned themselves to successfully deploy a tire deflation device near Edmonton Avenue and Avenue P North. Three occupants were then seen fleeing the immobilized vehicle towards a parking lot in the 1600 block of 33rd Street West; they were quickly arrested without further incident. Following evidence to suggest the presence of a firearm in the vehicle, a police service dog (PSD) was used to conduct an article search of the area; a loaded sawed-off 20-gauge shotgun was found discarded nearby. Continued investigation confirmed the vehicle to have been stolen at gunpoint in Prince Albert the day prior.
As a result, a 26-year-old man, 22-year-old man, and 17-year old female have each been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000 and several weapons-related offences; the 22-year-old man is also facing charges relating to unlawful possession of a controlled substance, operating a vehicle being pursued by police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to comply with court-imposed conditions.
