Two men were arrested after a failed attempt to flee a traffic stop led to locating a loaded firearm.
At around 3:20 a.m. on January 11, 2024, members of Patrol conducted a traffic stop on an unregistered vehicle in the 700 block of Avenue I South. While working to identify the vehicle’s occupants, officers discovered that they had been provided a false name by the driver. As officers returned to the vehicle to continue their investigation, the driver attempted to flee but was unable to gain traction due to weather conditions. Both the driver and passenger were ordered from the vehicle and arrested without further incident. Upon searching the vehicle, officers located a loaded sawed-off shotgun with the serial number removed, several rounds of ammunition, a folding knife, and $4765 CAD.
As a result, two men, age 36 and 25, are both facing several weapons-related charges. The 36-year-old has also been charged with evading police, obstruction, and failing to comply with court-imposed conditions.
