A youth male has been arrested after a traffic stop led police to locating a prohibited weapon.
At around 11:50 p.m. on March 20, 2024, officers conducted a traffic stop on a taxi travelling in the area of 22nd Street West and Avenue M South; it was observed that the lone rear seat male passenger was not wearing a seat belt. When asked to identify himself, the male provided a false name to officers before fleeing the traffic stop on foot; he was ultimately arrested a short distance away without further incident. Upon search of his person, officers located a 9mm handgun, loaded magazine, and his legal identification.
As a result, the 17-year-old Saskatoon youth has been charged with several weapons-related offences in addition to obstructing a police officer, fraudulent personation, and failing to comply with court-imposed conditions.
