A 19-year-old man was arrested earlier today after a physical altercation resulted in the deployment of a conducted energy weapon.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., January 16, 2024, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit were attempting to arrest a suspect known to be in violation of court-imposed conditions inside a mall in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South. The suspect, a 19-year-old man, refused to comply with officer directions and a physical altercation ensued resulting in a police member deploying their conducted energy weapon. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and transported to SPS Detention.

In addition to breaching his court-imposed conditions, the 19-year-old man is also charged with Assaulting a Police Officer.
