One man is facing weapons charges after being stopped for disobeying a traffic light while riding an electric bike this morning.
On August 15, 2024 at approximately 1:30 a.m., police were driving on 4th Avenue South near 21st Street East when a man on an electric bike disobeyed a red light, nearly causing a collision. Upon stopping the man for this offence, officers observed the end of a firearm in a bag the man was carrying. The man was arrested without incident and upon search of his bag, officers located a loaded sawed-off shotgun, additional ammunition, and methamphetamine. The electric bike that the man was operating was later found to be reported as stolen on July 9, 2024.
As a result, the 29-year-old Edmonton man has been charged with several weapons-related offences, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property over $5000, and failure to comply with court-ordered conditions. In addition, he received two City of Saskatoon bylaw violations for operating a bicycle without due care and attention and operating a bicycle without a light after sunset.
