A Saskatoon man was charged with assaulting an officer after he was found with a weapon, Friday evening.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., January 5, 2024, members of the Guns and Gangs Unit observed a wanted man near 22nd Street West and Avenue O. When Police attempted to place him under arrest, a physical altercation occurred and involved an officer being struck by the suspect. The suspect was observed attempting to reach for, what was believed to be, a firearm concealed in his pants, before a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was successfully deployed and he was taken into custody. It was discovered that the suspect's weapon was not a firearm, but a machete concealed on his person. He was also found in possession of ammunition.

The 28-year-old man, who was found with an outstanding warrant, was charged with Assaulting a Police Officer, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
