Saskatoon Police Aerial Support Unit (ASU) played a pivotal role in arrests over the weekend.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., February 11, 2024, police were notified of an altercation occurring in the 400 block of Confederation Drive. During the altercation a man was stabbed and a woman was assaulted. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. The 17-year-old was tracked by the ASU and arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. The victim was transported to hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries. At approximately 11:11 p.m., February 11, police were dispatched to the area of Avenue O and 21st Street West for an altercation. While police were arriving, ASU tracked a suspect to the 100 block of Ave O South, and observed him throwing something on the ground. The item was later identified as a sawed-off rifle. The 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing a weapon dangerous to the public, and concealing a weapon, along with a breach of court orders. (Court Information Number: 991258780)
At approximately 1:03 a.m., February 12, police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 100 block of Gibson Bend. Police attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle evaded. ASU took over, following the vehicle to the airport where the suspects fled on foot. A 25-year-old female was arrested and charged with multiple offences relating to possession of an uncontrolled substances, theft over $5000 and possession of a weapon. Later, police were called to the 3000 block of 33rd Street West for another stolen vehicle. ASU was able to locate the suspect and vehicle in the 100 block Avenue T South. As a result, the 28-year-old was arrested without incident.
