One man has been charged with a series of offences after he attempted to evade police early Wednesday morning.
Just before 2:00 a.m. on October 30, 2024, police attempted to perform a traffic stop on a Dodge Journey at the intersection of 8th Street and Cairns Avenue.
The vehicle evaded, and continued at a high rate of speed through multiple intersections and red lights. Ground units disengaged from the evade police incident while the Saskatoon Police Air Support Unit (ASU) took over. While tracking the vehicle, ASU observed the driver throw a machete out of the window which was later located by police.
Police successfully deployed multiple tire deflation devices and the vehicle stopped in the 400 block of 1st Street East. The driver of the vehicle was arrested without incident. A search of the vehicle located two types of ammunition.
As a result, the 33-year old man was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, and multiple weapons charges. The man also had 21 criminal code warrants, and was found to be breaching his court-ordered conditions.
