Three people were arrested following an evade police incident yesterday afternoon.
At around 4:45 p.m. on April 16, 2025, police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle in the area of 21st Street West and Avenue W South; the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed as it evaded police. The vehicle later struck a curb in the 1100 block of Northumberland Avenue and came to a stop. While conducting a high-risk vehicle stop, a male exited from the vehicle while discharging bear spray into the air; temporarily affecting officers dealing with other occupants of the vehicle. The man and a woman then fled from the vehicle while the male driver of the vehicle remained at the scene; he was arrested without further incident.
Continued investigation later led to the identification of the woman; she was arrested in the area of 33rd Street West and Northumberland Avenue and was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants. A police service dog (PSD) was then used to conduct a track for the suspect that had discharged the bear spray. He was located and arrested in the back yard of a residence in the 1100 block of Avenue Y North and was subsequently treated for non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a dog bite.
As a result, a 37-year-old man has been charged with operating a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public and operating a motor vehicle being pursued by police while a 32-year-old man has been charged with assault with a weapon (x2), among various other weapons-related charges and failing to comply with court-imposed conditions. The 32-year-old woman had her outstanding warrants executed upon her arrest.
