RESULTS: Saskatchewan Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP)

Members of SPS and other provincial agencies have completed the two-day Saskatchewan Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). On May 20th and 21st 2025, officers were stationed around Saskatoon targeting road safety initiatives like vehicle equipment regulations, car seat checks, commercial vehicle inspections and traffic safety violations.

In those two days, Police impounded four vehicles that were being driven by people under the influence of cocaine and cannabis. Of the 44 commercial vehicles that were inspected, 16 required further assessment while 15 were removed from our roadways and deemed out of service. Ninety-eight people were caught distracted driving, predominantly while using a cell phone. One speeder was seen on Attridge Drive in a 60km/hr zone travelling 111km/hr and another was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

In the entirety of STEP 2025, 345 tickets were issued and 114 warnings were provided to drivers. The Saskatoon Police Service would like to thank members of the public for accommodating this annual traffic safety initiative.
