The Saskatoon Police were called to ten bear spray-related incidents over the weekend, which occurred in public spaces.

One of those calls occurred on a City bus. At approximately 8:00 p.m., February 22, 2025, Police responded to a City Transit bus that was parked in the 2500 block of 22nd Street West. It was reported to SPS that two female suspects deployed bear spray towards a group of people on the bus, prior to the group chasing the suspects off the bus. All remaining occupants of the bus appeared to be suffering from the effects of bear spray and were assessed at the scene by paramedics.
One female suspect was located in a store in the 2400 block of 22nd Street West. Store employees detained the suspect after locating a can of bear spray on her person.
The 16-year-old is charged with four weapons-related offences along with Mischief and Breach of Conditions.

Another call occurred at a shopping mall in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South, on February 23, 2025. At approximately 11:30 a.m., security reported to SPS that upon escorting three occupants out of the building, one individual deployed bear spray at the security officer in a stairwell. The suspects fled prior to Police arrival.

Later that evening, at approximately 7:30 p.m., February 23, 2025, SPS responded to a bear spray-related call at a restaurant in the 3500 block of 8th Street East. Officers learned that one individual was seated in the restaurant when he was approached by the male suspect. The suspect became confrontational with the victim prior to deploying bear spray toward him. The suspect fled on foot prior to Police arrival. The assault is not believed to be random in nature. Paramedics attended to the scene to treat the remaining occupants of the restaurant.
