Charges Laid - Aggravated Assault - 1700 Block 20th Street West / 800 Block Avenue D North

One man has been arrested and faces aggravated assault charges in relation to two stabbings Saturday afternoon.

On May 2, 2026 at approximately 2:20 p.m., police were called to a hospital in the 1700 block of 20th Street West for a report of a stabbing which was determined to have occurred in the area of 20th Street and Avenue Q.

Arriving officers located a 25-year-old man receiving medical care for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing. Through investigation, officers learned the victim had been approached by a group of people who asked for cigarettes and after being denied, the victim was reportedly stabbed.

Then at around 3:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of an injured person in the 800 block of Avenue D North where it was reported that a male had been stabbed.

Officers arrived on scene and located a 61-year-old man with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing. He was transported to hospital by paramedics for further medical care. Other responding officers located a male matching the suspect description in the 800 block of Avenue E North. Officers were able to arrest the man without further incident and a search of his person resulted in police seizing a knife. Officers also noted the man matched the description of the suspect in the first stabbing.

As a result, the 30-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault (x2), possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and obstruction.
