Victims And Survivors Of Crime Week

"The Power of Collaboration" is the theme of Victims and Survivors of Crime Week, taking place across Canada from May 26 to June 1, 2019. This theme focuses on the work many organizations do to support victims and survivors of crime. Janine Baumann, Executive Director of Family Service Saskatoon states, “Our agency provides programs, services, and counselling support to those that are victims of violence. Many of the individuals we see have experienced domestic or interpersonal violence and we work with them to provide much needed support.” Service providers and professionals work together to create a better experience for victims and survivors of crime by advocating for them, giving them information, and providing them with meaningful support. “There is a continued need within the criminal justice system and victims services field for increased cross-sector collaboration, as well as enhanced coordination, partnerships, and multi-disciplinary responses to better support victims,” said Chief Troy Cooper.

To raise awareness for Victims and Survivors of Crime week, Family Service Saskatoon is partnering with Saskatoon Police Service to host a proclamation on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. The community is invited to Saskatoon Police Service at 10:30 am for the proclamation.

Family Service Saskatoon acknowledges the financial support of the Department of Justice Canada for awareness events for Victims Week. For more information about the Victims Fund, visit: http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cj-jp/victims-victimes/.
