A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed earlier this morning after a man was threatening to harm himself with a knife.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., July 5, 2019, Police received a report of a man armed with a knife and threatening self-harm at a residence in the 1200 block of Avenue D North. The male was also reportedly causing significant damage inside the residence. Upon Police arrival, the male was located at the back door. As Officers were attempting to take him into custody, he became aggressive toward them and he began reaching into his waistband. A CEW was successfully deployed and the man was taken into custody without further incident.

It is believed he was under the influence of an intoxicant.

The 31-year-old man was checked by Medavie Health Services West at the scene and then transported to detention. He is charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer and was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.

This incident will be reviewed in accordance to policy.
