Disturbance/Attempted Abduction - 700 Block Appleby Dr.

A man is in hospital today following a disturbance at an apartment early this morning.

At approximately 2:00 a.m. on July 9, 2019, Patrol officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the 700 block of Appleby Drive for a report of a disturbance.

Police learned that prior to their arrival, a male suspect was in an apartment suite with two other people and a baby, when he suddenly fled with the baby. One of the people from the suite, chased the male outside and succeeded in regaining custody of the infant. The suspect then returned to the apartment building where he gained access to a different suite. The residents inside reported to Police that the suspect was armed with a knife and threatened to harm people. He then left the apartment and tried accessing other suites in the hallway, before chasing the initial male victim who had also returned to the scene.

Officers located the suspect nearby, injured and bleeding and acting in an aggressive manner. He was believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine. Police deployed pepper spray but it was not effective. With the assistance of additional officers, the man was brought safely into custody. Medavie Health Services and The Saskatoon Fire Department treated the suspect’s non-life threatening injury on scene before transporting him to hospital.

A 29 year old man is facing numerous charges including Abduction, Uttering Threats, Resisting Arrest and Breach of Probation.
