River Rescue

On July 19, 2019, at approximately 10:35 p.m., Saskatoon Police Service Patrol officers, the Police and Crisis Team (PACT), the Saskatoon Fire Department and Medavie Health Services West responded to the report of a female in the river near the University Bridge.

Patrol officers initially arrived on scene to observe that there was in fact a female in the river. The fire department deployed a rescue boat and retrieved the female from the water.

Through investigation it is believed that the female had purposely jumped off the University Bridge in a self-harm attempt. Approximately 30 minutes prior, Police had received a call to the 500 block of 25th Street East regarding the same female threatening to cause herself self-harm with a knife. She fled the area at that time and had not been located.

The 42-year-old female received medical treatment at the scene and was transported to Royal University Hospital for further assessment. Her injuries are believed to be minor.
