Update - Suspicious Death Investigation - 600 Block Idylwyld Drive

On August 25th, Police were called to a hotel in the 600 block of Idylwyld Drive North regarding a deceased male, identified as Joseph Raymond Skillen. At the time, and as a result of initial investigation, the circumstances surrounding his death appeared suspicious in nature.

An autopsy was completed yesterday and as a result, Major Crime investigators do not believe Mr. Skillen was the victim of homicide. The investigation into his death will continue in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

Saskatoon Police would like to thank the media and public for their assistance in creating awareness of this investigation that allowed them to speak with those familiar with the deceased.

There remain 11 recorded homicides in 2019.

Saskatoon Police were called to a hotel in the 600 block of Idylwyld Drive North this morning at approximately 10:30 am regarding a deceased male.  SPS Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Services attended and are continuing with the investigation.  The death is being considered suspicious in nature, at this time, and the police and victim’s family are looking for the public’s assistance.

The deceased is Joseph Raymond Skillen, 50 years of age.  A photograph of the victim has been attached.  Police are asking anyone who may have known the victim or have had any recent dealings with the victim over the past couple weeks, to call the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 and ask to speak to an investigator in Major Crimes or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
