A 14 year old Saskatoon boy is facing a number of charges following an incident in which the driver of a stolen vehicle refused to stop for police.
At approximately 8:30 p.m, November 24, 2019, a member of the SPS Canine Unit spotted a Dodge Dakota truck at 25th Street west and Idylwyld Drive. The truck had been reported stolen from Rosthern. An attempt was made to conduct a traffic stop, however the driver in the stolen vehicle refused to stop and began evading Police. A pursuit was called off immediately due to public safety concerns, however officers were able to locate the vehicle again several minutes later and deploy a tire deflation device. The device was successful in disabling two tires on the truck. It continued to travel at a slow speed before striking a parked vehicle on Vancouver Ave. south where it came to a stop and the driver attempted to flee the scene on foot. He was located nearby and taken into custody. Inside the vehicle officers located an imitation firearm.
The 14 year old boy is charged with Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000, Evade Police, Dangerous Driving, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace and Breach of Probation.
