Saskatoon City Police responded, at 4:33 p.m. this afternoon, to a hostage situation in which a female was being held against her will, by her boyfriend. This took place in the residence shared by the couple, in the 200 block of Willis Crescent. Patrol units had initially responded and when the male accused began to threaten the life of the female, along with threats to take his own afterwards, the response intensified to include Members of the Crisis Negotiation Team and the Tactical Support Unit.
The female was rescued from the suite by Patrol and Tactical Support Team Members, and then using both verbal and physical tactics, remaining Members on scene were able to bring the male accused safely into custody.
There were no injuries to either the accused or Police.
The male has been charged with Attempted Murder, Uttering Threats to Cause Death, Unlawful Confinement, Choking to Overcome Resistance and Assault.
The male will appear before a Justice of the Peace in the morning to answer to his charges.
