Saskatoon Police were called to a business in the 600 block of University Drive at 5:00 p.m. on January 25th for a call of Mischief, after a 33 year old male was observed throwing a large rock through the front window.
A Bike Unit Sergeant, travelling toward the area, located the suspect at the base of the Broadway Bridge, in the 200 block of 4th Avenue South. The officer attempted to arrest the suspect for Mischief, but the male began to fight with him. A citizen passing by attempted to assist the police officer, and was subsequently assaulted by the suspect. The officer deployed his Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), which allowed the suspect to be taken into custody without further incident. The citizen was not injured during the arrest.
The male faces charges of Mischief, Breach of Probation, Assault, and Obstructing a Peace Officer. He will appear before a Justice of the Peace.
The CEW deployment will be reviewed in accordance with Policy.
