Update - Homicide Investigation - 300 Block Slimmon Road

A man charged in a 2020 homicide that was arrested while attempting to cross the border into the United States in January, has been returned to Canada. 

Afrah ALI arrived in Saskatoon yesterday and appeared in court this morning on his charges of Second Degree Murder. (Court Info # 991137309).

The SPS would like to thank the agencies that assisted in returning the accused to Canada: Canadian Border Services Agency, RCMP Air Services and Provost, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice, and the U.S. authorities.

The subject of a Canada-wide warrant in regards to a 2020 homicide in Saskatoon, was arrested by the United States Border Patrol while attempting to cross into the U.S. unlawfully on January 23, 2021.

The Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section is working with authorities in an effort to have him returned to Saskatoon.

Saskatoon Police are requesting public assistance in locating a man believed to be responsible for the city’s most recent homicide investigation.

As a result of the investigation to date Afrah ALI, DOB 1988/05/08 is now wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second degree murder. Investigators believe he may be in the Saskatoon area, but is known to have associations to Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa. 

Afrah ALI is described as 189 cm (6'3")  tall and weighs 116 kg (256 lbs). He is believed to armed and should not be approached . Anyone with information is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency.

ALI is wanted in connection with the August 21st, 2020 shooting and murder of 30 year old Logan Nayneecassum at restaurant / pub located in the 200 block of Slimmon Road, Saskatoon.

Saskatoon residents who may have information regarding the whereabouts of Afrah ALI or this homicide are asked to call the Saskatoon Police at 306-975-8300 and ask to speak with an investigator in Major Crime or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The Saskatoon Police Service, Major Crime Section is actively investigating a shooting that occurred at a restaurant / pub in the 200 block of Slimmon Road that resulted in the death of a 30 year old Saskatoon Male.  

On August 21, 2020, at approximately 3:00 a.m. Police were called to a restaurant / pub in the 200 block of Slimmon Road for a report of an injured male. First responders on arrival to the business located an injured male suffering from a gunshot wound. The injured male was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Yesterday an autopsy was performed on the 30 year old male victim confirming that the cause of death was the result of a gunshot wound. His name is not being released at this time at the request of his family.

Investigators with the Major Crime and Forensic Identification Sections have been actively investigating this homicide and have determined that on Friday morning at approximately 3:00 a.m. the establishment began preparing to close for the evening. As people began to leave the restaurant / pub a dispute between numerous patrons resulted in an altercation where the the 30 year old male was fatally shot. Investigators with the Major Crime Section have spoken to numerous persons who were in attendance at the restaurant / pub at the time of the incident  but it is clear that at the time of the shooting numerous people fled the scene and as a result have not been spoken to by police.

Police are asking for the publics assistance in identifying and speaking with anyone who was at this restaurant / pub on Thursday night and early Friday morning.   Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to call the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 and ask to speak with an investigator in Major Crimes or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

 

Saskatoon Police Major Crimes and Forensic Identification continue to investigate what is Saskatoon’s ninth homicide of 2020.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., August 21, 2020, Police were called to the parking lot of a business in the 200 block of Slimmon Road. At the scene they located an injured male. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. An autopsy was conducted today by the Saskatchewan Coroner Service.

Investigators with Saskatoon Police Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Services are at the scene of a serious incident in the 200 block of Slimmon Road.

Motorists are advised that there are traffic restrictions currently in place.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., August 21, 2020, Saskatoon Police received a call to attend to an address in that block.
