A 33-year-old man has been arrested after trying to evade Police, while impaired, early this morning.
On December 15th, 2021, at around 12:45 a.m., officers observed a car driving in the 300 block of Avenue R South with no lights on. The vehicle description, which included the trunk being tied down with a rope, matched three impaired driving reports from the previous Monday night.
Police attempted to pull the vehicle over in the 100 block of Avenue R South but the driver failed to stop and proceeded at dangerous speeds, running red lights and stop signs.
While responding officers terminated their pursuit, patrol officers were able to assist and track the vehicle which eventually left the city on Highway 16. The vehicle was then spotted turning around to come back into the city. Officers, along with assistance from the RCMP, were able to successfully deploy tire deflation devices, slowing the vehicle down significantly. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Beam Road, and the driver and a passenger were taken into custody, without incident.
The 33-year-old man, who was driving the vehicle, face charges of Dangerous Driving, Evading Police, Impaired Driving, Refusal and Operating a Vehicle While Prohibited.
The 41-year-old woman was arrested on outstanding Criminal Code warrants.
