Transit Policing Program

During November 2025 budget deliberations, Saskatoon City Council approved funding from Saskatoon Transit for the creation of a Transit Policing Program to help make for a safer and more welcoming transit system for passengers, employees and the broader community.

The program will provide a visible, proactive and community-focused police presence on buses, at terminals and around other Transit property. Its work will include crime prevention, relationship-building, responding to safety concerns and enforcement when necessary.

Transit policing will be part of an integrated approach to safety. Many situations are best addressed through education, de-escalation, outreach or connection to community supports. Police will focus on circumstances involving criminal activity, violence, weapons or other significant threats to public safety.

The Transit Bylaw

Saskatoon’s Transit Bylaw, effective September 1, 2026, establishes clear expectations for conduct on buses and other Transit property. It gives police and transit officials graduated tools to address fare evasion and unsafe or disruptive behaviour, including warnings, removal, tickets and temporary restrictions from Transit property. Police continue to have authority under federal and provincial legislation when conduct may constitute a criminal or provincial offence.
