Heavy Police Presence - Leif Erickson Place - Rusholme Road / Ave M North

Two people are facing firearms charges after an investigation by the Saskatoon Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit.

On March 31st, 2022, at approximately 7:30 a.m., police received a mischief call to Leif Erickson Place, near Rusholme Road. Upon arrival, officers heard a gunshot, and the Tactical Support Unit was called in to assist. Investigators learned two suspects had been involved in an altercation at the residence earlier that morning, which involved two rounds being fired through a front window. The front window was then broken, resulting in the call to police. One of the suspects, a 19-year-old male, fled the scene on a transit bus and was arrested shortly after downtown. He was found to be in possession of a firearm.

TSU and patrol officers were then able to safely take a 15-year-old male into custody, at the residence. He was found to also be in possession of a firearm.

The 19-year-old male faces charges of Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Mischief and five other firearm related charges. 

The 15-year-old male is charged with Recklessly Discharging a Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Breach of Conditions, and two other firearm related charges.

The incident at Leif Erickson Place has concluded with multiple people in custody. Traffic restrictions in the area have been lifted, however as officers continue to investigate, a police presence will remain on scene.

There is currently a heavy police presence at Leif Erickson Place. Traffic restrictions are in place on Rusholme Road between Avenue P North and Avenue M North. The public is asked to avoid the area which also extends to Bedford Road between McMillan Avenue and Avenue M North. Officers believe a suspect in a residence, in the area, may have a firearm.

Schools in the area have been notified. More details will follow once they become available.
