The Saskatoon Police Service Air Support Unit and Canine Unit were pivotal in making arrests during a busy Monday night.
On May 16, 2022, at around 6:15 p.m. police were called to the 400 block of Avenue X North for a report of a hit and run on a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle had been hit, and the suspect had fled the scene on foot. The suspect vehicle was also discovered to have been reported stolen. The SPS Canine Unit was able to successfully track the suspect, to the 100 block of Avenue V South, where patrol officers arrested him without further incident.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested, and found to have a bag with a knife inside. He is charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Failing to Stop After an Accident, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Breach of Conditions.

Then at approximately 8:45 p.m., the SPS Air Support Unit located a vehicle matching the description of a stolen vehicle, driving eastbound near 1400 Circle Drive. Police attempted a traffic stop but the driver began to evade police at high speeds. Eventually the ASU observed the vehicle come to a stop, where the driver fled on foot and was observed breaking into a residence and eventually leaving. The ASU was then able to lead the SPS Canine Unit and patrol officers to a backyard in the 100 block of Auld Crescent, where he was arrested without further incident.
A 41-year-old man faces charges of Motor Vehicle Theft, Dangerous Driving, Evading Police, and Break and Enter. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants from other agencies.
