Police are investigating following an evade incident that resulted in a serious collision.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. on June 17, 2022, police responded to the 100 block of Avenue O South for a report of a vehicle theft in progress. Responding officers quickly located the vehicle in the area of 22nd Street West and Avenue R South where a high risk vehicle stop was attempted; upon initiating the stop, the vehicle fled from police at a high rate of speed. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed in the area of 22nd Street West and Circle Drive; the fleeing vehicle collided with city infrastructure a short distance later.
The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, a 16-year-old female from Saskatoon, was removed from the heavily damaged vehicle and transported to hospital by Medavie Health Services West with what are believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Charges are pending.
The Collision Analyst Unit is processing the scene and is expected to remain there for several hours. Members of the motoring public are advised to find alternate routes through the area.
The Major Crime Section will conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the incident with oversight from two independent observers appointed by the province.
An update will be provided upon removal of traffic restrictions.
