Two men were arrested after a firearm was discharged early this morning.
At around 6:40 a.m. on August 18, 2022, a Constable and police service dog were completing a training exercise in the 300 block of Ottawa Avenue North when a gunshot was heard nearby. Two potential suspects were observed fleeing the area on bicycles. While pursuing the pair on foot, the Constable relayed directions of travel to responding officers who were successful in quickly locating and arresting the suspects. On their persons, officers found and seized several articles of stolen property, a variety of knives, paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking, assorted ammunition, a small quantity of unconfirmed pills, and approximately 28g of suspected methamphetamine. Further investigation found that the involved firearm was discarded during the pursuit; a comprehensive grid search of the area, conducted by members of the SPS Public Safety Unit, located the firearm in a nearby yard.
The two men, both 30-years-old, remain in police custody; charges are pending.
