Members of the Regina Police Service have been asked to investigate an SPS officer-involved shooting which occurred this evening in the 1300 block of Avenue E North.

Earlier, Police had received reports of shots being fired at the location.  Upon arrival, members in Patrol and the Tactical Support Unit were able to make entry into the multi-unit residence in an attempt secure the safety of the other occupants in the building.  They were confronted by the armed male suspect when the fatal shooting occurred.

In response to plans by the Saskatchewan Government to ensure greater independence in investigations into police-involved incidents, the SPS immediately requested the investigation be led by the RPS and assisted by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT). The SPS has also requested two independent observers, pursuant to The Saskatchewan Police Act, 1990.
