Public Advisory - Keys Left In Idling Vehicles - Stolen Vehicles

With cold temperatures back to start the New Year, the Saskatoon Police Service is cautioning drivers to not leave keys in vehicles.

Over the past few weeks, the number of vehicles being stolen with keys inside, is once again on the rise. When proper precautions are not taken, this can present a crime of opportunity for thieves.

If leaving your vehicle idling outdoors, the Saskatoon Police Service recommends ensuring keys are not inside and the doors are locked. Install and use a remote starter that will run your locked vehicle without the use of keys. If that is not possible, don’t leave your vehicle unattended while warming it up.

While officers work diligently to investigate and enforce crimes that are committed, these cautionary steps could prevent you from becoming a victim of a crime.

To report suspicious activity or a stolen vehicle call the SPS non-emergency line at 306-975-8300, or 9-1-1 in the case of an emergency.
