The Saskatoon Police Service has been named a Saskatchewan Top Employer, once again.
Competition winners are chosen based on several factors including; physical workplace; work atmosphere & social; health, financial & family benefits; vacation & time off; employee communications; performance management; training & skills development; and community involvement. This positive criteria is evident among the newest segment of front-line officers in the SPS; The Alternative Response Officer (ARO) program, sees members facilitate outreach and referral services for vulnerable people in our community, while assisting regular Patrol and Traffic members. It wasn’t long before this pilot program became a permanent unit within the service.
“These Alternative Response Officers bring incredible value to our organization," says Police Chief Troy Cooper. "This flexible program fills a public safety need and also allows us to develop a recruitment pool for Police Officer positions. In addition, the training and work experience they receive grounds them in community policing principles”.
Top Employer contenders are closely analyzed in comparison to other Saskatchewan organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. This year marks 11 years of being recognized in the annual competition, and the SPS is highlighted in “Saskatchewan’s Top Employers," a supplement to the Saskatoon Star Phoenix and Regina Leader-Post.
