The Saskatoon Police Service has arrested a 27-year-old man, after a suspicious person call led to a conducted energy weapon (CEW) being deployed.
On April 10, 2023, at around 12:15 p.m., officers were called to the 200 block of Avenue D South, for the report that a suspicious person was going through vacant properties. Upon arrival, officers observed a man matching the description made in the initial report. When officers attempted to stop him, he immediately began to walk away, and was seen holding an expandable baton. After failing to comply with police demands, the suspect turned in an aggressive manner towards officers and also appeared to also be holding a knife. A CEW was deployed but was unsuccessful, a second CEW deployment was effective in allowing officers to take the 27-year-old man safely into custody.
The 27-year-old man faces charges of Threatening to Assault a Police Officer while Carrying a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Breach of Conditions. He was assessed by Medavie Health Services at the scene and the deployment of the CEW will be reviewed in accordance with SPS policy.
