The Saskatoon Police Service has arrested a 26-year-old man after a dangerous driving incident over the long weekend.
On April 7, 2023, at approximately 3:00 p.m., police observed a vehicle with a confirmed stolen license plate at the intersection of 20th Street West and Avenue P South. When officers tried to perform a traffic stop, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. The SPS Air Support Unit (ASU) continued to monitor and track the vehicle, as a tire deflation device was successfully deployed at the intersection of 11th Street West and Avenue W South. The driver continued to flee, but eventually parked the vehicle in an alleyway near 21st Street West and Avenue O South. The driver began to flee on foot, but was arrested shortly after with the assistance of the ASU. A search found him to be in possession of a concealed folding knife and the vehicle was also confirmed to be stolen.
The 26-year-old man is charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Possession of Stolen Property, Evade Police, Dangerous Driving, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. He was also confirmed to be wanted Canada wide on a breach of statutory release.
