This traffic stop was conducted in the area of 19th Street West and Avenue Q South; not 19th Street East as previously reported.
Three people were arrested with two facing charges after weapons were observed in a vehicle during a traffic stop this morning.
On April 13, 2023 at approximately 2:10 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of 19th Street East and Avenue Q South. As one officer began speaking with the male driver, a second observed a firearm concealed behind the female passenger; all occupants, including a second male in the rear seat, were ordered from the vehicle and arrested. Continued investigation and a subsequent search of the vehicle found a sawed-off and loaded .22 calibre rifle, various .22 calibre ammunition, a machete, and a small knife; all were seized by police.
As a result, the 24-year-old male driver and 22-year-old female passenger are facing several weapons-related charges. The 19-year-old rear seat male occupant was later released without charges.
