A conducted energy weapon (CEW) was deployed this morning after a man wanted on warrant assaulted two police officers during his arrest.

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on April 14, 2023, police were responding to an unrelated matter when they observed a man known to be wanted on warrant walking in the area of 16th Street West and Avenue P South. Upon informing the man that he would be placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant, a physical struggle ensued; the suspect struck the arresting officers multiple times causing injuries to both. As the struggle continued, a CEW was successfully deployed and the suspect was arrested with the assistance of additional officers.

In addition to the execution of his outstanding warrant, the 26-year-old Saskatoon man has now also been charged with assaulting a police officer (x2).

The deployment of the CEW will be reviewed in accordance with policy.
