Two people were arrested following an unsuccessful attempt to evade police in a stolen vehicle yesterday morning.
On April 27, 2023 at around 4:30 a.m., police observed a vehicle confirmed to be stolen out of Melfort, Saskatchewan travelling in the area of Avenue O South and Dudley Street. Upon initiating a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed; however, the suspect vehicle continued to be driven dangerously as it exited the city on Highway 7. The suspect vehicle exited onto Township Road 362 where it became immobilized. Both occupants were arrested without further incident; one was found to be in possession of bear spray and a knife.
As a result, the 39-year-old male driver has been charged with; possession of stolen property under $5000, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace (x2), unauthorized carry of a concealed weapon (x2), dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle being pursued by police. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants. An outstanding warrant was also executed against the 36-year-old female passenger.
